Good morning, friends! It seems that things are a-changin’ at a lot of Disney properties at the moment and we here at the Downlow think that’s a good thing! Over the next several years, visitors to Disney parks in Florida and California will have to deal with the inconvenience of construction walls and cranes as new lands for Star Wars, Toy Story, and Avatar (remember that one?) come to parks on both coasts.
For better or worse, Disney is also making a push to get the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy into the mix and that’s where the picture above comes into play. At Disney’s California Adventure (DCA), it’s been announced that the Hollywood Tower of Terror will be soon be replaced by Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT, a full overlay/replacement of the ToT! Fans have been on the fence about the change and yesterday was a tough for those fans because when daylight broke, the iconic signage had been removed from ToT – the first outward sign that the ride’s transformation into Guardians was officially under way. (Fun fact: the Guardians of the Galaxy are also rumored to soon make their way to Epcot to replace Ellen’s Energy
Today’s Downlow is here with some great stories across the web of some of the fun changes and (less-fun) construction happening in the parks right now. We’ll do another post in a few weeks about how to best avoid frustration when dealing with all that construction in the parks!
- Inside the Magic was at DCA to capture footage of the sign-less Tower of Terror
- WDW News Today has a great photo recap of construction process at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- ThemeParX has great recent aerial shots of Avatarland at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
